Career Guidance & Placement Cell

The college has a Career guidance and Placement cell to provide the information pertaining to the career options, Government Jobs, Corporate Jobs, Private Jobs and also information related to Entrepreneurship facilitates available for the students. Prof. Giridhar K. V. is the Co-ordinator for the Career Guidance & Placement Cell. The activities of the cell are mentioned briefly as under:

1. Professional Skill Development: The cell focuses on making students "industry-ready" through several targeted training modules:
a) Life & Soft Skills: Programs include communication improvement, personality development, and even unconventional methods like drama/play sessions to boost alertness and participation.
b) Recruitment Essentials: Intensive training on Resume/CV preparation, Group Discussions (GD), and Mock Interview sessions to build confidence for actual corporate hiring.
c) Technical Readiness: Regular workshops on Aptitude and Reasoning, covering shortcut tricks for time, work, and direction-based problems.

2. Competitive Exam Coaching: The cell provides dedicated support for students aiming for government and administrative roles:
a) Civil Services: Cell gives orientation for courses for UPSC and KPSC exams through experts.
b) Banking & Others: Specialized orientation and coaching for Banking exams, as well as entrance exams for PGCET.
c) Resources: The cell provides access to specific books and materials required for competitive examinations.

3. Professional Course Orientation: To guide commerce students toward specialized certifications, the cell invites experts for motivation and guidance:
a) CA & CMA: Frequent orientation programs to guide students on course structures and career paths.
b) Corporate & Private Roles: Guidance on pursuing CS (Company Secretary) and other trending professional demand courses.

4. Placement Performance: The college maintains strong industry ties, and also invites companies for campus recruitment.

PATHWAYS: TRAINING & PLACEMENT CELL
Pathways is the Training & Placement Cell for all the three (Sahyadri Commerce & Management, Sahyadri Arts and Sahyadri Science) colleges in the Sahyadri Campus which is offering a comprehensive training to students during their graduation for three/four years. The cell is started by Ford Foundation sponsored global project called “Pathways” in 2002 and now governed by Kuvempu University. The main objective of the project is to identify the academically distinguished students from the socially and economically marginalized sections of the society and to help them access higher education through academic assistance. About twenty-five such students are being selected every year from three each college of Sahyadri College campus and helping them to shape their career through training and various innovative activities like Computer Skills, Communication Skills, Career Planning, HRD Skills etc.

The training is carried out during the free hours of students’ classes and they take part in daily club activities covering Aptitude and Reasoning, Science and Technology, Language and Culture, Book Review, Current Affairs and GK, History, Polity and Geography, Cinema, Culture, Media etc., also undergo special workshops during the mid-term and summer vacations. Further, student assignments, field visits and community outreach activities, documentary making are conducted during these workshops to instil a sense of social commitment and social responsibility in them. The unit also arranges campus interviews to help job aspirants. The alumni of Pathways are serving in different fields and occupied some coveted positions. Prof. Giridhar K.
